Vaccine!

My last post wasn’t very hopeful, but then it all happened fairly quickly. I called Monday, didn’t get through. Called Tuesday- was told all appointments were full. Then I called on Wednesday again, for good measure, I thought. After twenty minutes waiting (I swear, half of my knowledge of classical music comes from being put on hold), I spoke to a scheduler, who told me they set up a vaccine drive through at the airport. My appointment was today, 8.30 am.

Basically, they had rented the entire long term parking lot. There were hundreds of cars already, when I arrived at 8.17am. Everywhere there were greeters who pointed where you had to drive. It was a bit like a parcours, I drove from one station to the next. First, I showed my ID, then drove to the check-in, where they also scheduled my second dose appointment, something I had worried about, but was taken care of now. By the time it was my turn, it was 9.15 am, but it was fine- I was cozy in my car, had a cup of coffee and listened to a great audiobook (“The Survivors” by Jane Harper- check it out, it’s fabulous). They asked me to wait in the parking lot for another 30 minutes afterwards. It felt a bit silly- nurses were walking around the cars, checking in on us. I finally came home at around 10.30 am.

My arm is hurting a bit, and I am feeling tired, but so far, it’s all good. I am still impressed by the efficiency and professionalism that I encountered today. I truly hope they can all keep this up, and we all can get vaccinated as quickly as possible.

got a sticker too!
