Hello, my name is Verena, and I have Crohn’s. I grew up in Germany, and moved to the US when I was 25. My Crohn’s was diagnosed in 1985, when I was four years old, so I barely remember any time “before the diagnosis” – a “normal life” may mean different things to me than to others. I want this place to be a space for many voices and opinions, so if you’d like to submit a guest post- be my guest and contact me!
The quick and dirty:
1985: Diagnosed after two years of back and forth
In Between: treatment with everything under the sun, hospitalizations
1998: First partial bowel resection
In between: several flares, treated with Prednisone and Imuran, hospitalization
2009-2011: Fistulas, Fistula drains, Fistula surgery
Jan 2015: Stomach Perforation. Since then five surgeries, but I am on the mend.
When I am not dealing with Crohn’s, I take care of my three cats and my dog, read and write, and enjoy the outdoors of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, where after much moving, we settled down! To more adventures!
