I am back from my South Africa trip. I am planning on writing a lot about it, but right now, I am hit with jet-lag. No matter what people tell me, for me, going from east to west has always been the worst. I am also noticing my age- a 30 hour trip isn’t as easy on me as it was when I was 18.
There are a lot of good articles out there on how you should drink a lot during your flight, take melatonin, eat regularly, etc. I always think that the writers of these articles must always fly first class or so, because when you have to share a bathroom with 200 others in economy you limit your fluid intake. (Side note: every time I am in an airplane bathroom I wonder why in god’s name anyone would want to have sex on a plane? Are you a bacteria fetishist?). Melatonin doesn’t work for me. Sigh. I eat regularly, but after 30 hours of flying and awful airplane food, served at odd times, my stomach is so upset that I will eat rice and broth for a few days. This time it’s actually surprisingly good- probably because I skipped two meals on the plane and ate mostly crackers.
I seriously don’t think that there are any good ways to overcome jet-lag, other than just to get through it. Don’t overthink it. I’ll try to make it through the day, get some laundry done, finally watch “Big little lies” (I finished the book right before my trip), walk my dog, and generally take it easy.
That’s it for now.
