(I have posted a shorter version of this on my social media)
On Thursday, I got an early Christmas Present- a colonoscopy! Ok, maybe not the procedure itself, and god knows the prep was quite dramatic.
My gastroenterologist suggested I try SuPrep, instead of Miralax, since Miralax apparently can be hard on the kidneys. I looked it up and was prepared for awful taste. I had it chilled, I had lemonade to wash it down with, and I somehow downed it, even though I think it should be outlawed by the Geneva Convention for its taste alone. And then fifteen minutes later, I threw it all up. Change of plan, I ran to Safeway and got some Miralax, did my usual prep, and just hoped that it would all work in time. It did, thank God.

Back to the verdict, and my early present. I got a perfect-looking colon (aside from an anastomosis at the surgery site)! We still have to wait for the results of the tissue samples, but it looks like I am if not in deep/histologic remission (no microscopic sized inflammation), I am in clinical remission, and have been for the last 9 years.
This is the longest time in my entire life that I have been in remission.
Sure, there are some bumps in the road here and there, I have my bad days, for sure. Still, I am deeply content, and eternally grateful. I always feel a bit guilty posting such good news, knowing how many other Crohn’s and Colitis patients are struggling because their treatment won’t work, or they don’t feel like their caregivers listen. But, perhaps, I can also provide a tiny bit of hope. Science is always moving forward, there are new medications and new treatment plans on the horizon. When I was diagnosed, the only treatment was prednisone (and a prayer, lol!)!
It’s my deepest Christmas wish for everyone to have hope, take it day by day, and don’t give up.
Happy Holidays!
